Chris Reed and Sarah Hammond (Shanklin & Sandown) have won the mixed foursomes final played in showery weather at Osborne Golf Club. They have now won the title 3 times in the last 5 years.
Playing against Paul and Wendy Young (Cowes Golf Club) the match started with 2 halved holes but a 3 putt from the Young's at the 3rd allowed the Shanklin pair into the lead.
Reed who is the Island Mens Champion played 2 great shots at hole 4 where he played his approach to about 6 feet and at the 5th where he chipped in for a birdie. Hammond was not to be outdone and her tee shot at the short 6th brushed the hole and finished about 2 feet away giving the Shanklin pair a commanding 4 hole lead.
Two further mistakes on the greens from the Cowes couple allowed the lead to increase to 7 holes at the turn. The match concluded at the 11th hole when the Shanklin pair combined again to be about 8 feet from the hole in regulation and when the Cowes pair could not make a nett par the hole and match were lost with the final score of 8&7.
The standard of play from the Shanklin pair was so high that they were level par for the holes played as the match finished.
