Following consultation it has been decided that the points system for qualification for the games in 2013 will continue, with some slight amendments.
Qualification will run for both 2011 and 2012 seasons with all scratch events of the IWGU being used to decide the team for the 2013 games. First event will be the 36 hole games qualifier and Harry Gordon Trophy being played at both Freshwater and Shanklin clubs on 16/17 April. Final event will be the Autumn Meeting in 2012.
At the end of qualifying the top 3 players will automatically be selected for the games team and the committee will pick the fourth player. All players must be eligible in accordance with the Island games rules (born on IOW or resident for at least 1 year). In order to be considered for selection players must play at least 2 events.
In all events the top 32 players will earn points. The previous points table will continue to be used for this purpose.
Points will be weighted 1x in 2011 and 1.5x in 2012 with the exception of the championship in both years which will be weighted 1.5x and 2x respectively.
The IWGU will organise an additional 18 hole stroke play event in August as a further games qualifying event. This will be a scratch only event.
The Singles Matchplay will be used as a qualifier with top 16 players who have won a first round match earning points as per the table. Matchplay will weight 1x in both years.
Please be aware that due to the expected high cost of the trip to Bermuda players will be expected to contribute towards some of the cost themselves. More details will be announced when known.
