The Isle of Wight have enjoyed great success at the NatWest Island Games held on the Island over the last week. All 8 golfers have walked away with medals for the first time in an Island Games as Both Mens and Ladies Teams took to the rostrum after a hard fought 72 hole contest.
The Ladies topped the pile taking the Ladies team event by an unprecedented 18 shots from Gotland and a further 52 ahead of the Bronze medalists Guernsey. The quality of the play from the Ladies was summed up in that Emma Powell finished second in the individual with a total of 295 just 3 behind the Gold medalist. Sophie Beardsall took Bronze on 302 and Sammi Keen, playing in her first games turned up trumps with 4th place on 309. Jo Wright finished in 11th on 338.
The Mens Team finished in Silver medal place on 856, 11 shots behind Gold medalists Isle of Man. In the individual event Brandon Thompson finished on 278 to take silver, 5 behind Paul Lowey from the Isle of Man who converted his 4th place in Aland 2 years ago into Gold this time.
Chris Reed was 9th on 291, George Foreman was 14th on 295 and Darren Masterton was 17th on 298.
The 5 medals won represents the best performance by an IOW team ever in an Island Games, well played everyone.
