Following extensive discussion the selection committee have decided that the fourth wild card spot on the Men's Team will go to Jordan Sundborg of Shanklin.

Island golf is in the enviable position that it has such depth of talent it could field two men's teams both of which would have very good chances of bringing home medals.

Event 4 - Newport Golf Club - Sunday 24th August

Congratulations to Freshwater's George Faulkner cleaning up in both the Scratch and Handicap at Newport yesterday. 

Carding 38 points off his 5 handicap Faulkner took first place in the handicap event by a single point from Shanklin's 9 handicapper Chris Bailey on 37. Third place was taken by Elliott Webb from Newport with a solid 35 points from his 24 handicap.

In the scratch event Faulkner was the only player to break the thirty point barrier with 33, second was Chris Bailey again with 29 and third Newport's Mikey Mitchell also on 29 loosing out on count back.

As always a big thank you to Newport for hosting the event, the Junior Organisers for helping to chaperone the boys around the course, checking the sores etc and last but not least to the parents for providing the transport.

Congratulations to Jordan Sundborg (Shanklin) on a run away victory at Osborne on Saturday 23rd August with a one under par 69.

In second place really came the course with the CSS going up to 72, even the normally consistent Jordan struggled carding 6 birdies and 5 bogeys.

Darren Masterton (Osborne) took 2nd place in the event although he asked me not to mention what he shot (the square root of 5,476 for the mathematically inclined amongst you) with Ryan Harmer (Brokenhurst) in third on 76 beating Josh Oddy (Westridge) on count back.

A further four Shanklin players finished within two shots of the prize money ~ George Foreman. Nat Riddett, Tony Williams and Peter Hill.

Isle of Wight Golf Union Championships

This year's Men's Championship is to be played at Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club on 27,28& 29th June. These competitions are open to any member of an Isle of Wight Golf Club with a handicap. This years competitions are as follows: Friday 27th 18 hole Stableford for the Brabazon Trophy Saturday 28th variety of competitions: 36 scratch medal, 36 handicap medal, 18 medal am or pm times, over 55's medal trophy and team trophy best 3 of 4 scores. Sunday 29th Semi Final (4 best 36 hole scratch scores from Saturday)am and Final pm - Matchplay. Cost is £5 per event.
