Inter club Foursomes league and Greensome league rules


1. The leagues shall be called “The Isle of Wight Golf Union Inter-Club Golf Foursomes League” (A league) and “The Isle of Wight Golf Union Inter-Club Greensomes League” (B League)

2. The object of the league shall be to provide Inter-Club competitions and good fellowship.

3. (i) “The Isle of Wight Golf Union Inter-Club Golf Foursomes League” team shall consist of six players (Three Pairs). Any player in a team playing handicap of 16 or more shall be required to play to a handicap limit of 15. Teams must be in combined handicap order and the lowest plays at number one -not necessarily the first match out.
(ii) “The Isle of Wight Golf Union Inter-Club Greensomes League” team shall consist of eight players (Four pairs)

4. (i) Foursomes matches shall consist of two balls foursomes match play and the handicap shall be ½ of the difference between the aggregate handicaps on either side. (ii) Greensomes matches shall consist of two ball matchplay game for teams of two where both partners drive and they choose the best drive and then play alternate shots for the rest of hole as in foursomes. For handicap matchplay, take the combined Greensomes handicaps of both teams (Lower handicap x 0.6 plus higher handicap x 0.4) and the lower pair gives the full difference.

5. The results of all matches shall be reported on a reports card which must carry the date of the match and must be signed by both Team Captains. The home team Captain is responsible for forwarding the results card to the Union`s Hon. Secretary who will maintain a league table based on points awarded for each match as follows: -
(i) Foursomes League:
“Two points to be available for each of the three individual Foursomes games in a match. Two points to be awarded for a game won and one point to each team for a game halved. In addition to the 6 points available for the three games there will be two bonus points for the team that wins a match or one bonus point to each team if the match is halved. In the event of a tie on total points by the league leaders at the end of the season a play-off shall be arranged on a neutral course to determine the winner of the Isle of Wight Golf Union League Shield. Any matches must be notified to the Hon. Match Secretary.”
(ii) Greensomes League
Two points to be available for each of the four individual Greensomes games in a match Two points to be awarded for a game won and one point to each team for a game halved. In addition to the 8 points available for the four games there will be two bonus points for the team that wins a match or one bonus point to each team if the match is halved. In the event of a tie on total points by the league leaders at the end of the season a play-off shall be arranged on a neutral course to determine the winner of the Isle of Wight Golf Union Greensomes “Bob Wilson” award. Any matches must be notified to the Hon. Match Secretary.”

6. Team members shall not be eligible to play for more than one club in each year.

7. In cases of bad weather where it is not possible to contact either team captains or the club secretaries. Teams must put in an appearance. Failing to do so renders the defaulting club liable to lose all games in the match.
